SEO And Blogging in EverWeb

Video Transcript:

In EverWeb, SEO is“baked in” which makes it easy to add SEO to your website.

In this video we look at how to apply SEO to your EverWeb created blog.

We highly recommend that you first watch our SEO for EverWeb Video Course which explains how to easily implement SEO throughout your EverWeb built website.

Your content is the key to better SEO and SERP rankings. Never sacrifice good content for SEO and page rankings. Blog posts that just target SEO and SERP rankings ultimately result in less visitors to your blog and website.

Generally a blog post should be at least 300 words long. For SEO, longer articles are better but if a post is too long it may be off putting to your readers… A blog post of 750 yo 1100 words is considered optimal..

Your post should include one to two keywords per 1000 words in your text. Our video course has more information about keywords.

Longer blog posts should be split up as this makes the content more manageable for you and your readers.

If you have a long post that you have split into a series, add links to the previous and next posts in the series. In EverWeb you can link to the previous or next post by ticking the include navigation links in the Widget Settings.

Add relevant links to your post but make sure that links are to referenced, credible sources as this is better for your SEO.

If possible, your link text should be unique e.g. if you use 'Click here’ as your link text, this will get you zero traction in SEO as this text is so commonly used.

For better SEO, post new content on a regular basis’. Regular posts will be anticipated by your readership if they enjoy your content.

Always make sure that your content has something to say, if not it may be better to post nothing at all. Planning your posts in advance is the best strategy to avoid content that says nothing!

The other advantage of posting regularly is that Google and other search engines will crawl your website and blog more often. If your website is not updated regularly your page rankings may be negatively impacted.

Google and other search engines rank posts higher if they are original and of high quality. It’s also good for your website's readership who will appreciate that you have put thought and effort in to what you are writing about.

Do not plagiarise content from others as this can negatively impact your SERP rankings.

If you do quote content from someone else's work, always acknowledge this and and provide a link to the source.

Your blog post should always have a proper title that includes one or two keywords. Your title should be 60 characters or less if possible as this is better for SEO.

When writing the blog post itself, focus on only one message or idea, and remember that it’s usually better to structure you post with a  beginning (introduction), middle (the message, idea) and end (conclusions, wrap up).

This structure is best for holding the reader’s attention. It also gives you the opportunity to create a logical flow throughout the post and allows you to introduce paragraph headings.

Paragraph headings help organize and highlight text content in your post. They also break up text and ideas in to a more digestible format and your readers can quickly scan the post to find what they want.

Paragraph headings are good for your SEO as Google and other search engines use them to index the structure and content of your web pages. This is then used to improve your SERP ranking.

Paragraph headings employ a hierarchy of ‘tags’ for SEO purposes.

Use the Paragraph Headings button in Blog Post Editor Toolbar to define the level of importance of the heading.

It’s recommended to use only one 'Heading 1' paragraph heading per post. Use multiple Heading 2 and Heading 3 paragraph headings as required for less important sub headings and titles.

When adding images to your post the same SEO rules apply as they do when you add images to regular pages in your site.

The image filename should say something about what the image is. If possible name the image file before dragging and dropping it in to EverWeb it’s better for your SEO. If you have already imported images that use e.g. a camera generated name, you can still edit the filename in the Assets List.

Remember to add ALT Text to your images too. In the Blog Post Editor window click on the Image. The ImageToolbar is displayed. Click on the 'i' icon for Alt Text and add in your descriptive text. Press Enter to finish.

Adding Alt Text is useful for those who are visually impaired. It also replaces the image itself if it cannot be displayed and may benefit your SEO.

Don’t forget to add SEO in to the Page Settings for the Blog Main, Blog Posts and Archive Pages.
