We're excited to introduce a new feature in EverWeb 4.2—the Map Fill option! This handy tool allows you to embed interactive Google Maps directly into your website, offering both visual appeal and functional value to your pages. Whether you're designing a simple website or a complex, interactive project, Map Fill can help you achieve the look and functionality you need.
What is Map Fill?
Map Fill is a new feature within EverWeb’s Shape Options that lets you add a Google Map to any object on your website. Whether you want to use a map as the background of a widget or embed an interactive map for users to explore, Map Fill gives you the flexibility to easily do so.
How to Use Map Fill
To start using Map Fill, make sure you’re using EverWeb 4.2 or higher, available for both macOS and Microsoft Windows. Here’s a quick overview of how to set it up:
Adding Map Fill to an Object: You can apply Map Fill to any object on your page, such as a rectangle shape, TextBox, or widget. In this example, let’s add a rectangle shape to your page.
Accessing Shape Options: With the object selected, go to the Shape Options tab and click the dropdown menu in the Fill section. From there, select Map Fill.
Choosing Your Map Type: Map Fill offers three mapping options:
- Simple Map (Deprecated): Provides basic map functionality similar to EverWeb’s existing Google Maps widget.
- Basic Map (Free): Allows you to choose between Roadmap or Satellite views.
- Advanced Map: Offers additional features like toggling labels, terrain, and map controls, along with custom label options.
Setting Up Your Google Maps API Key: For the Basic and Advanced Map options, you’ll need a Google Maps API Key. If you don’t have one, EverWeb makes it easy to get started. Just click the "Get Google Maps API Key" button, and follow the prompts to generate and enter your key. This will unlock all the features of the Map Fill option.
Examples of When to Use Map Fill
- Contact Pages: Embed a map to show the exact location of your business, making it easier for customers to find you.
- Backgrounds: Use a map as the background in a Responsive Row widget to create a visually engaging section on your site.
- Interactive Experiences: If your site includes a directory or listing of locations, using the Advanced Map option can enhance user interaction with added controls and custom labels.
